An Infinite Number of Monkeys
A Saxon Mystery (#1)
by Les Roberts
#1 in the Saxon mystery series.
Introducing L.A.-based private eye Saxon. A transplanted Easterner trying to make it as an actor, Saxon stays solvent (and sane) between roles by running an investigating agency.
When someone takes a potshot at famous pulp detective writer Buck Weldon, Saxon agrees to help—especially after meeting Weldon's tall blonde daughter. Turns out, the writer's enemy list is longer than some of his novels and is headed by his agent, his publisher, and one of the biggest producers in Hollywood.
Baffling leads involve a major cocaine dealer and a professor specializing in private eye literature. Saxon's investigation takes him from Westwood to Palm Springs and back to the San Fernando Valley before its violent culmination in a backwater Mexican village on the Baja peninsula.
Reviews
A near perfect mystery and a dazzling first novel. American Library Association
Roberts crams all the ingredients of a classic mystery into this short tale; his characters, especially the wry, capable Saxon, sizzle with tension, and his plotting is both inventive and suspense filled. Booklist
Les Roberts possesses the most enviable literary gift of allhis own voice. “An Infinite Number of Monkeys” is not just a strong first novel, it's a strong novel period, with great color, pace and plotting. Roberts will easily develop a following and a future. Mystery Scene
A definite winner . . . One of those books you know you're going to love after reading the first paragraph . . . There's not a false move in this book . . . Puts Roberts off to a strong start as a mystery writer. Let's hope for more Saxon Mysteries. Scripps Howard
